Yeah.. its been ages.. kept putting off the big update which caused it to get bigger and bigger… story of my life… till now!
I’ll start with some links and misc techy things I have just been reading.
http://www.genewatch.org/GeneSrch/Traits/Traits.htm
“The most common way of doing this has been through the use of antibiotic resistance genes as ‘markers’. These genes are transferred together with the gene of interest (such as herbicide tolerance) and cells that are thought to have been genetically modified are grown in a medium containing the relevant antibiotic. Only those cells that have been successfully modified are able to survive and grow.”
I never knew this point about GM. Something that was bad in my mind now is worse. The rest is a good read.
Been using a app kinda like LaunchBar called QuickSilver. Its even better though and has more features than LB. I have spoken to the programmer on iChat and he seems pretty open to ideas so thats good. There are some things I’ve wanted to be programmed into OS X and this could be the perfect app to combine them. grab it for OS X HERE NOW
Elaborate hoax? Or the real deal? I go for the first but its a great read:

You know those cross action toothbrushes, they look like // // // instead of ||||||||||||||. well it was invented by a ‘brain’storm but a computer!
“A Creativity Machine used two neural networks to study toothbrush design and performance. A brainstorming session between the two produced the idea to cross the bristles of the toothbrush for optimal cleaning. That toothbrush became the Oral-B CrossAction toothbrush.”

Now the Pentagon tells Bush: climate change will destroy us. – Secret report warns of rioting and nuclear war – Britain will be ‘Siberian’ in less than 20 years – Threat to the world is greater than terrorism
Lucky we have the US to save us all from becoming crazed antagonists huh?
ok… so what has happened since last post?... well.. quite a bit!
In rough time order:
- car broke down. cost lots to fix
- got new harddrive for powerbook. a bit bigger (30gig over 20) but the 20 was getting really noisy. buggy batch of IBM drives.
- got a part time job(not directly related to above) cutting vegies and steaming and mixing sushi rice for a sushi shop.(2 days a week) I enjoyed it for the short time i was there and has given me a kik up the arse(ie, motivation)
- had a fun new years at my friend dan’s house. i mp3 dj’ed (lined up the queue
) I brought mp3s to play on CD but i couldn’t copy files from his CDrom and play mp3s at the same time!! (weird buggy computer) so i didn’t have a very big selection. I’ll use my powerbook next time.
- Urs went over to the US for NAMM. He met many of the people we talk to online. Wish i could have gone too. He got Zebra t-shirts printed with logo on front and bigger logo on back saying ‘Zebra Wrangler’. He and some others wore them, hey! i haven’t seen any photos of the t-thirts in action yet!
- my girlfriend got jemgirl.com
- bought a novation remote25 audio. very impressed! still waiting for the software bundle and firmware upgrade to activate the built in synth to be delivered though.
- got some web design jobs, multiple and more to come from a local guy(in melbourne) who hosts sites. Also doing a studio site. Its not done yet but soon! (today). AND another for Marc Schonbrun which i haven’t gotten to yet.
- girlfriend left her job cause it was far too stressful.
- been doing plenty of music stuff, trying to get better at playing, not just playing around with sounds and programming stuff.
- Also got job to design UI for a upcoming synth/effects host. More about that when its out!
- girlfriend went to queensland for about 2 weeks for her new born Nieces Christening + holiday. she needed it
- made a bunch of jem and the holograms t-shirts for girlfriend and atariboy.com tshirt for me which uses the design thats on atariboy.com
- our goldfish, “agent” died. Had a lot of character that fish. Got excited when you where near the tank and seemed to look back at you if you watched closely. It also used to know when it was about to get fed when the lip was opened and he/she started looking up waiting
- went to big day out. was awesome! friendly, felix da house cat, aphex twin+luke libert, and basement jaxx where highlights. there was so much on, i still didn’t see all the bands i would have liked to have seen. bummed i missed the dandy warhols and The Flaming Lips
- nabbed(didn’t steal it) a casio SK-1 from cash converters. fun! had a jam with keith using it while he played his acoustic guitar. lots of fun and there where some really nice musical moments.
- St Kilda festival day, keith, a friend of his, tegan and i played lawn bowls at the local bowls club while drinking beer(how cool! what a concept!) had a great time there then went and watched the bands who where playing around the place. Got neck strain from checking out all the hot chicks walking past
- put up photography.jemgirl.com
- keith very kindly gave me his 512 meg of ram for my powerbook cause he upgraded to 1gig. i had 384 megs before.. i am amazed how much difference another 128 meg made! wow
- had a improv jam with keith with our laptops. he used reason and live, i used live and play Zebra and Oddity synths. I used the remote 25 to play the synths and used the knobs and sliders the bring in and out loops that where playing in live. worked well. was some great music made, pity we didn’t record it.
- this blog is taking ages to do
