Just bought a yamaha an1x.

I am darn happy with it so far. Havn’t gotten into programming any sounds myself but I have grabbed some patches off the net and loaded them on as well. (thanks Sysex librarian)
the reasons I bought one:
wanted a controller with knobs
controller that is lighter than the Ensoniq EPS i currently use
wanted a ‘real’ synth so i could compare it to softsynth’s
it was cheap!! AUD$400 (USD$ 264.92)
i heard it can make some really nice warm sounds
I guess cash converters didn’t know what they are worth. score!
there is no editor for it yet on OS X
only pc and os 8-9
I can’t find the programmers email address. wanted to ask if he is gonna port it.
So now i have a great controller AND a great synth for the price i was gonna pay for a controller only. and its a MUCH better controller anyway. nicer feel and has after touch. best thing about the controller only keyboards is they are a bit lighter but i am surprised how light the AN1x is for a synth. Oh yeah, another plus for controller only keyboards.. well, the USB ones that is; they can be powered off your computer. a huge boon if you are playing with a laptop. no external power needed!
EDIT: added a photo of my AN1x.
(started using kung-log again. does a nice job of adding pics to posts.)

Hey Atariboy, have you tried SoundDiver to edit patches with? It’s possible someone has built a map for it that would allow it to talk to your synth, or if this synth is similar to some previous Ensoniq models, maybe you could try those settings.
no, i havn’t. sound diver is OS 9/windows only as well.
many of the patches are in a special .an1 format so thats why i need the special app..
i found quite a few patches in sysex and i can use them in OS X anyway with Sysex librarian so i am pretty happy. but yeah, i can’t program it with a computer UI yet and i doubt sound diver could offer the features the dedicated app does.
maybe i should pull out an old LC475 and macman MIDI interface i have here and use that. hmmm
oh also, the synth isn’t an ensoniq, it’s a yamaha.
Yeah, that’s what I meant, haha. I thought I sent a reply correcting that. I love SoundDiver, but obviously I haven’t used it for awhile. I assumed there was an OSX version of it. I should have assumed you’d figured that out, resourceful OSX audio guy that you are.
And on that note… I miss the Bunka. Apewok’s server is great, but sometimes I feel like posting obscure audio tech stuff on there would be boring to some of the users.
And while I’m aware it’s still up, it’s kinda hard to post news to a server that’s been saying it’s going offline all the time. Or is that just a trick to get ‘the man’ off your back?
do you think i should bring the bunka back properly?
or maybe add a news section to apes?
no. its not to keep them off my back… there’s nothing illegal there to start with… all free samples and non-signed musicians music.
word, atariboy
just bought one of these myself after hearing nothing but good things about it
can’t wait to toy with the thing
i have one aswell and it´s a great synth, got almost exactly for the same reasons as you =)
I got one a few months ago but the MIDI implimentation seems a bit screwy, ie when connected to Reason the mod wheel doesnt link to the mod wheels of the softsynths
